I MET BECKY ALBERTALLI (aka author of Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda)

Before I start, I just have to gush over how amazing the month of June was. First of all, it was #pridemonth so everywhere I went was filled with rainbows and sparkles and so much HAPPINESS. My heart felt so full. <3 And not to mention that I went to TWO concerts within THREE days. It was insane but so, so, soooo wonderful. (I touched Dan Reynolds' bicep. It was very soft. I'm talking baby butt soft, my dude.)
I also started a super-duper-top-secret internship (*wiggles eyebrows*) and I got accepted into my dream school! Which feels completely surreal. I'm a little afraid to talk about it a lot because I don't want to jinx anything, but my sister keeps telling me to give in to the excitement, so...
And on top of all that... I GOT TO MEET SIMON'S MAMA.
In case you haven't already read the posts (here and here) where I rave about the book Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda and movie, Love, Simon, then you must know that Becky Albertalli is one of my favorite authors... So, meeting her was definitely a dream.
The thing is, I had no idea she was coming here. I posted clips from the movie on my instagram story one night and a friend responded to it, saying she had the opportunity to meet Becky and watch the movie with her, and I was like: wut how where why was i not invited???
Apparently, it was an event held at a library not even that far from me. So, on the verge of tears, I did some research (aka stalking) and found out that she was having a talk and book signing at another library!
lol of course I went.
The town where the library was located is super small so there wasn't even a huge crowd. I expected us having to wait in line but nope. My sister, cousin, and I entered the building and were approached by a group of smiling people, telling us to help ourselves to lemonade and cookies (RAINBOW COOKIES + OREOS). We found seats right up front where Becky was standing while she spoke and answered questions, making eye contact with us every .2 seconds. I was beside myself.
Then it came time for the signing and we were the second group in line, so we only had to wait a little bit. But Becky gave everyone her full attention and talked to each person individually, making you feel like you left the place with a good friend.
Before I knew it, it was our turn in line and... I was shaking. I had no idea what I was going to say but, long story short, she hugged me and we talked about Nick Robinson and how he smells (Becky says he doesn't have a scent but she did say that he is a huge mama's boy so we did, in fact, leave with a satisfying answer).
She even drew cute little doodles inside our books while we were talking to each other. We asked her to sign our email notebook that came with the movie and she said that it was the first one she had ever signed (EEEP). It's a good thing I didn't wear my doc martens because it was 90+ degrees out. I was going to wear them to complete my Leah look but I decided that the hair and shirt were enough. Becky actually complimented my cousin, sister, and I on our "looks" by saying we brought so much happiness to the front of the room.
ahh, look at all the book swag!
Afterward, we went out for some ice cream and ate it on our way home, then I posted the pictures + video my sister took for me and Becky commented on it, thanking me for the little gift that I gave her. (I cry.)
All in all, life has been really good, my friend.
It feels really surreal and sometimes I have a hard time letting things be when they are good... I'm an overthinker and my anxiety can get the best of me at times. But right now, I'm just going to appreciate all the lovely things that have been happening and I think you should, too. :)
