NaNoWriMo + Blogger Yearbook

Me: *crawls out from writing cave* ...Mom? Dad? *looks around* What day is it?

Robot: *zips and zooms about* Why, it's the year 2134! *dabs*

Me: *sighs* I see some things never change.

Robot: Slay gurl, slay!

While I hope you enjoyed my strange dialogue with a future robot, I do have an announcement to make. A few announcements, actually.

- IT'S ALMOST CHRISTMAS! My family and I are planning on going out of town for a few days to celebrate. I am super excited. Also- I finally put snow on my blog! How does it look? Festive, eh? I almost forgot to do it... How frightening?

- I got my wisdom teeth pulled the day before Thanksgiving. It was interesting. The laughy gas made me feel like I was sleeping on a big puffy white cloud. And yes, I did giggle. And no, I did not say nonsense things I would regret years down.

- I am listening to Christmas music as we speak. It's fabulous.

- ROSIE AND I WON NANOWRIMO! With just 89 words over.

Yes, you heard me correctly. We actually won NaNoWriMo. It feels so surreal. I never imagined myself achieving such a goal. But I did it, with Rosie, and it feels amazing. We just about wrapped up our second book and then began writing another book. It was so much fun. I didn't feel pressured to write either, which was surprising. Every time we logged on together we just got to it and it flowed very nicely. I... actually miss it. It was like jumping into the deep end of the lake with nothing but water and seaweed to keep you afloat. Oh, the rush of it all. We went through all the emotions you could go through whilst writing a book. We laughed, we cried, we fangirled, and then cried again because our characters are just so perf. (Not really but really.)
So, yeah. I'm in love with our series (did I mention it's a series?) and I actually miss NaNo. Crazy, right? But after we take a much needed break, we're going to pounce right back into it just as the new year comes around. Which means we'll be able to spew out all our evil writing ideas we kept locked up through December. *insert evil laugh here*

And one more announcement! So, in honor of the year 2016, Morning is creating a blogger yearbook. Isn't that so cool? If you guys wanna be in the same yearbook as moi, you should totally sign up for it. ;) The deadline is soon! Not sure when but SOON! ...Might even be today. o-o So, go skedaddle and sign up before it's too late!

You Have a Voice, Speak Softly

You may not want to read this only because there's most likely posts upon posts in your newsfeed about this year's election. And don't worry, I feel you.

But I would like to just express my thoughts on the subject before they get tucked in the back part of my brain as I go about my day.

I didn't get to vote. This year would have been my first time voting, and while I've never been interested in politics, I am very upset that I did not have a say in this election. I stupidly missed the registration deadline (which was in October) and I was left watching the election go by without getting to have a say. If this were any other year, I probably would have shrugged it off. But I have grown my own opinion on the subject, and I would like to sprinkle a little of my thoughts on you guys. Ready?

As we go about our days, I want you all to remember that everyone is allowed to have their own opinion. Everyone is allowed to respect others' opinions. It's okay to be happy. It's okay to be sad. It's okay to want to be heard.
I want you all to use your voices not for anger but for what you are passionate in. Speak for what you desire most, but please be humble, for this is when we all need each other most. We cannot be quick to judge because then our thoughts would not be apprehended. We must listen in order to be heard.

What we need most right now is love. Love for friends. Love for your family. Love for our country. Love for life.

We only have one life to live, and how treacherous it would be to live it feeling upset and angry and insignificant.

So, as I end this post I'd like for all of us to focus on the positivity and happiness that surrounds us every day. From the people who love you to your current obsession.

Please do not worry. You are heard.

P.S. How do you all feel about me starting a newsletter in January? Yay or nay?

Halloween 2k16

I love Halloween. Like, you have no idea how much I love it. I love dressing up and putting make-up on. I love the thrill of the preparation, you know?

I used to hate fall. I know, crazy, right? But now I'm a basic white girl so I love fall. I love the clothes and the leaves and the pumpkins and GAH- I love it.

Okay, back to Halloween.

Halloween used to be the reason why I could tolerate fall. But now that I adore fall, I just love the month of October even more!

So, with that said... How would you all like to see my Halloween transformation? ;) This year I wanted to look, well, pretty. I know, that's wrong to say. But what I mean is... I wanted to go as something kind of girly! And who am I to deprive myself of that? Hm?

You all saw my Halloween costume from last year, right? Well, I probably will never be able to beat it, but I am pretty proud of this year's getup. I even gave myself eyebrows. o-o

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you my pastel-goth-grunge-like-modern day-witch costume! Enjoy. <3

And then the good ol' Barnes and Noble trip + coffee (which was actually just hot chocolate because they sure wanted that pumpkin spice latte gone).

My sister and I decided to match and go as witches that resembled our personality. Lila went for a classier look while I let myself explore my inner goth. I especially liked the cotton candy colored wig, in case you didn't notice. ;)

Did you explore yourself through make-up and wigs this year? Or did you just enjoy what the season had to bring?

p.s. How are you NaNo writers doin'? Yah hangin' in there? I am doing fabulous! However, those nervous jitters are starting to spark and I'm afraid I'm not going to *cough* make *cough* it. Do not fear though! I shall try my best to hang on! And I hope you all will as well. <3

My NaNoWriMo proposal

As you may or may not know... I am quite charming. I can smooth, brah (in an awkward, bad timing kind of way). Alright, maybe my ego is a little high at the moment. But you all must be curious about the title of this post. Right?

When I had the opportunity to acknowledge the fact that I could, indeed, participate in this year's NaNoWriMo, I decided to jump on it! Like a cat and it's prey- just snatchin' up that moment, you know? So, I did what any Good Samaritan would do.

I proposed to Rose using Call Me Maybe lyrics.

Pretty creative, am I right? You're probably guessing she said yes, or well, I did. But with that said... I am doing (or trying to do) NaNoWriMo 2016.

In case you don't know what NaNoWriMo is, it stands for National Novel Writing Month. The rest is pretty self explanatory, but you're supposed to try and achieve the goal of 50,000 words written in the month of November. Why, you ask? Well, allow me to fill you in on all the deets.

- If you haven't read this post, my writing buddy, Rose, and I are working on a series together. So, we decided to participate with on our already kick-started series, The Visionaries

- I tried NaNo in 2014, completely wung the whole thing. Yeah... Not the best decision. Let's just say, I barely lasted a week.

- Now I'm back and ready to type my booty off!

- I feel like I have evolved as a writer over the years. I took writing classes and joined a writing group to become a better writer. But it was all bad timing. I wasn't ready to be a writer, despite how badly I wanted to be. Now that I'm ready, I feel like I can really accomplish something.

- These books aren't going to write themselves so why not get a jump start and use NaNoWriMo as an excuse to get 'er done.

- I used to be a panster. Writing a book for me meant writing it and just making up everything as I go. Now, I've entered the "Plan Everything To the Core" fan base. Hey, how you doin'? And now, I don't know if I could ever go back to being a panster.

With that said... Are you doing NaNoWriMo? If so, I wish you all the best of luck. Have you participated before? If so, please don't hesitate in sharing some friendly advice with me. Are you a panster or a planner? Any tips for a newly obsessive compulsive planner?

Have a lovely week, my friends. <3

p.s. does anyone subscribe to my posts by email? It never occurred to me that some of you may have. I'm not sure how I feel about that considering, well... Let's just say I do not like to reflect upon some of my written works on here. Nothing personal, I'm just human... And a tad bit curious.

p.p.s. Rose bribed me with pizza into making the decision to partake in NaNo. If you ever want something done, just talk to Rosie. She knows what's up.

just a friendly reminder

you are awesome
you are beautiful
you are amazing;
just as you are
nobody can compare
to the exquisite soul
that is within you
you are loved
you are wanted
you matter.
do not forget to feed and water yourself
just like a plant; you need to grow.
live your life to the fullest
help others
and be spectacular.

I'm writing a book! | The BookKaR

Kenzie is writing a book? Why on earth has she not told us about this? Why have we not read it yet? Where is this book? Why am I not holding it?

Well, I'm so glad you asked. ;) And I intend to answer these questions as thoroughly as possible. Yes, I am writing a book. And the reason why I have not told you yet is because I have been working on it non-stop. But I haven't done it alone.

This is merely a collaboration between two girls who have known each other forever and decided that it was about time to write this darn book. Which, actually, is already finished. The first draft is, anyways.

When did this start?

It was last December when Rosie came to me and was all like: "Yo, you wanna write a book together?"
And then there was me, who had been wanting to ask the same question! So, with that I replied: "Brah, let's do it."
Those weren't our exact words, but that pretty much sums it up. And while I was dusting off icky cobwebs from bookshelves and fireplace mantels, we chatted about what the genre of our new book and if it was going to be a series.

We decided on a mixture of a dystopian, romantic, fantasy, realistic YA book.

And yes, it is indeed a series.

What is this book about? What is it called?

The Visionaires is about three main characters; Gen, Maria, and Noah, who befriend each other and go on a mission for various reasons all joined by the same reason: Gen's sister is kidnapped.

I don't want to give too much away but it's really awesome and I'm in love with all the characters and there's a ton of romance and sarcasm, and Noah is my bae.

When can I read it?

Shortly! But in the meantime, we have published two sneak peeks that are ready for reading!

How can I read these sneak peeks?

I'm glad you are as eager about this as I am. ;) To read our sneak peeks, all you gotta do is sign up for our newsletter and we shall send them to you ASAP.

Hang on, I have one more question...

Okay. Take your time.

What is 'The Bookkar'?

The BookKaR is defined as a collaboration between Rosie and I. Along with it being our website and writing community, where we plan to explore the wonders of writing and fangirl about our book series. We are also working on an eBook for our readers. For more updates, just sign up for our newsletter here

I'm so excited about this, and I cannot wait for you all to be introduced to The Visionaries. Plus, we have a really awesome Pinterest board for our collaboration. You should totally check it out.

Gosh, why on earth haven't we done this sooner, Rosie?

Get Inspired (cute obsessions)

Do you ever just go school supplies shopping and come home with succulent erasers you will probably never use because they are just too cute? Or cute little notebooks that you'll probably never write in because THEY ARE JUST TOO ADORABLE.

Because, same.

But on the bright side, you have adorable stationery that inspires you. And that's all that matters, am I right?

So, today I would like help you all get inspired with some of my cute finds! And for the record, I'm so not trying to brag... Okay, maybe just a little. But they're too cute to pass up!

I got these at our grocery store, they were on sale for, like, $6 or $7 (#winning, am I right?). I think the company that makes them is called C.R. Gibson. At least, that's what it says on the back of the "Bright Ideas" notebook.

The one with the glasses on the cover is actually and address book for BLOGS. Isn't that awesome? Imma put all your blogs in it. Lemme know if you want me to add yours. ;)

Funny story: It had been weeks of me contemplating on the adorable stationary that my grocery store had on display. I am not one to spend full price on such items. Plus, I knew myself too well to buy them when I would probably never touch them again. However, a sudden urge came over me. I needed this adorable supplies. Thus, I decided that the next time I go to the store, I shall get them! ...We didn't go back to the store for a few days. In my mind, I already knew that they were no longer there. What was I going to do without my blogddress book? (See what I did there? ;)) Anyhow, we finally went to the store and guess what? THEY WERE STILL THERE! And even better... EVERYTHING WAS ON SALE. So, in conclusion... I truly believe my stalling was definitely a sign.

Okay. Story over.

Then I went to Target in the beginning of September and GOT MORE CUTE SUPPLIES TYPE THINGS. YAY! ...I also got a bodysuit and t-shirt. #sorrynotsorry

Target carries this super cute line called Sugar Paper, and oh my word- stationary heaven. I got these cute post-its and paper tag type things, as seen above.

Along with this gold washi tape that I have no idea what I'm going to use for.

Quick story (I promise): Just after we checked out at Target, I saw their little bargain section and found MORE CUTE AND ADORABLE SUPPLIES STUFF. HELP ME. And it was all for just a $1. *insert cry emoji here* My youngest sister and I went nuts.

AND GUESS WHAT ELSE? THEY HAD SUCCULENT ERASERS! Yep, you heard me. Succulent erasers.

AREN'T THEY SO CUTE THO?!?!?! ...Okay, I'm done fangirling.

But not until I show you all this beautiful notebook I found at the mall. And guess what? You'll never guess. C'mon, just try to. Pleaseeee? Oh, jeez. Okay, you don't have to guess.

It was ON SALE TOO!!!! It also has those fancy gold pages you see on old books. I don't even want to touch it. <3-<3

Want more ideas on how to stay inspired? Check out my post over at Freckled Minds

Thanks for reading.

Keep going.

I wanted to decorate my creative workplace. You know, make it artsy, cutesy, beautiful. I’ve had a variety of things dance on and off the walls: corkboards, whiteboards, pictures of Paris. But nothing ever really seemed to fit.
While my mini decoration-crisis was occurring, I attended a film camp. Besides learning that I am NOT meant to be in the film industry (lol), one of the most valuable things I’ve ever learned about creativity--and this probably applies to most things in general--is to keep going.
Just keep going.

Even if you feel like your writing sucks or your videos stink or your photography is a disgrace to the world of photography, keep going. Because if you’re meant to do something, you’ll eventually be able to do it. It just takes time.
I will keep going. Even if people don’t like my writing and reject it either with direct words or lack of interest. Even if people call it “cute” and then disregard it altogether.
Even if people tell me becoming a writer is not “practical.” Even if they don’t understand.
Even if I feel like my writing is not up to par. Even if I think that I’m never going to get to where I want to go. Even if I feel like I’m worn out, tired from trying to reach goals that seem out-of-reach.
I’ll keep going.
Because my biggest enemy is me, and the One Who called me is the voice who matters. And if my writing glorifies Him? I will be satisfied.

When I got home on that last day of film camp, with information under my belt and lots of really good food in my stomach (Biola has really good food, lol), I went straight to my desk and, after much deliberation, grabbed a simple white piece of paper and wrote on it, in black marker, the words KEEP GOING.
It’s been hanging up on my wall ever since, and I don’t think I’m going to make another decoration. I’m not a Pinteresty person. I’ve found that I get the most inspiration from blank walls, walls that have possibility, walls that I can paint on with my mind, as opposed to ones that are already defined.
Keep going. If it’s His will, it will work out.

When did you start blogging?

I started Silver Mess in January of 2016 and it focuses on my life and, more specifically, my travels. I'm trying to change it into a travel blog, but I love writing fiction, so there's that element in it too. It's kind of all over the place, to be honest.

What are some blogs that inspire you?

I love Summer of 1999 (, Totally Graced (, and The Teentrepreneur (

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I'm sixteen going on seventeen, a senior in high school, and an aspiring writer. It's not a practical job choice, but then, I was never a practical person.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about creativity and creating things, whether it be stories or photographs or forts or anything, really. Creating is so much more fulfilling than consuming, in my opinion, and I believe that God has called me--and all other humans on this planet--to create things that point back to Him, the original Creator.

Any words of wisdom?

Keep plugging away at whatever it is you're doing. If it's your calling, don't give up.

Thank you so much, Rachel for your amazing guest post. It was lovely to have you. <3 ;) Everyone, you gotta check out her blog because she's pretty awesome. Plus the name is super cool. Am I right? So, yeah. Click here.

Paper Comets | Magazine Release

I don't know if you already know this, but Freckled Minds, a teen art society I have been honored to be part of, has released its very first magazine! Let's give a round of applause to the beautifully constructed... Paper Comets.

Over the course of this summer, I had participated in this amazing magazine collab. And now it's finally here, everyone. It feels so surreal. I feel incredibly blessed to have been a part of this project, and I am so proud of how it turned out. I am also proud to say that I stayed up until 3am to be there right when it was published. Hardcore dedication, am I right?

This magazine has provided me with smiles, late night giggles, the birth of Albion, and the opportunity to express my creative abilities.

My drawing piece for the zine

(Yes, she indeed has flowers exploding from her head)

With all honesty; I had no idea what I was getting into when I commented on Morning's post. The old Kenz who let her fears make her decisions for her, would have scrolled right passed that post. But I stopped myself and thought: "Why not?" And I am so glad I did. Because none of this would have happened and Albion wouldn't be running for president. #VoteAlbion #Pasty4Prez #Albion2k16
I hope that you all enjoy what we've done, because I know we've enjoyed ourselves. ;)

The awesome peeps who had to deal with my awkwardness:

Rosie - Self Known
Morning - Ups and Downs
Grace - Totally Graced
Ava - Quiet Land
Abbie - Abbiee
Rachel - Silver Mess
Albion - #Pasty4Prez

Special thanks to Morning and Ava for having to put up with us. Honestly, we wouldn't have made it this far without their guidance and ability to stay focused - you girls rock.

The moment you've all been waiting for is finally here- no, sadly, it is not free pizza day. Seriously though, when is that going to become a thing?

Anywho; as I was saying... It's here you guys! It's finally here! My Super Duper Awkward Beyond Awkward to the Depth of  Awkwardness Vlog is finally here! Now you all can watch this horribly edited video of my - *shudders*- face talking to you! After five and a half years of blogging, you will finally get to witness me in ~ motion ~.

*awkward pause*

...So yeah, this video is pretty self explanatory. It kinda sucks... Like, really bad. I filmed it on my laptop's webcam (hence the buzzing sound throughout the entire vlog) and the coloring is... meck. The only good thing about it was the music - oh, but wait... YouTube wouldn't let me use that. So there goes my fab Twenty One Pilots and One Direction background music! I could probably film a better vlog for you all but I'm too lazy and... #yolo.

So, without further ado... Here is my very first vlog (I am going to regret this in about two days).

...Um, yeah. I'm sorry you guys had to witness that. But hey, I thought I'd end summer with a bit of a special treat for you all. If this is considered a special treat. o.O

Alright, let's change the topic now before I explode from cringing. So, in just a matter of days (September 1st, I believe? Or is it August 31st?) Freckled Minds will be releasing their zine project, Paper Comets, and I am super excited for you all to see it! I worked really hard on my entry and am actually quite proud of it... The other day I was able to video chat with a few of the lovely contributors to this amazing art society. I apologize, girls, for any embarrassing things I may have said or done. I babble a bit when I'm nervous. o-o But it was so much fun and I cannot wait to do it again. <3

I hope you all are enjoying the last bit of summer because SCHOOL STARTS IN LESS THAN A WEEK AND I AM NOT EVEN READY AT ALL. HELP. PLEASE. OKAY. BYE.

Back on the Couch | pt. 2

Back on the couch; we were pressed tightly against each other. Our souls locked tight. My mind could not conjure up a dream of us ever being otherwise. This was it. This was good. We were slowly intertwining ourselves within one another. Twisting. Twining. Connecting. Colliding. Soon, our souls will become one.
But then the sofa pulls out from under us    my hand gripping, slipping, reaching for yours. It's too late. Gravity is tugging us apart, shoving us in opposite directions. You look at me with eyes that say: “Maybe this is how it's supposed to be.”
My throat tightens. Gravity has me by the neck. My hands and feet are bound together    I am unable to move, or speak. I want to shout “NO!” My mind is racing. My heart is clenching. This wasn't how it should be. This was the fear we had buried deep inside us, the one you thought about often but never convinced yourself it could actually become reality. And now, it was seeping out and filling itself into our plans and dreams.
You begin to float away, leaving me captive within the gravity’s hold and the floating (now meaningless) couch. “There's nothing more.” You say. Your eyes are apologetic, which makes me feel so hopeless. My fingers grasp at your body’s delineate. I'm limp now. Our anatomy changes. We’re stretched, shifting and bending into something else.
It’s reality now. We are complete strangers that have nothing left but the imprint of our souls on one another.
We always pass, completely parallel. Never together. Never crossing. Never like before.

What Happened to Us?

who wants to hear my voice?

So, earlier this year I was thinking of doing a vlog. Then I forgot, but now I'm thinking of doing it again. There's no guarantee that I will be doing it for sure, because I still have to figure out what I am going to film it on. BUT... There's like a 90% chance that I'm doing it, so ask me some questions if you'd like. :) They can be weird, random, serious, not serious... Whatever! Just as long as they are-- *darkens voice*-- for all ages. ;) So, get those fingers moving and ask me all the questions you want via commenting or emailing. If you decide to email me, just title the email "Vlog". Also, please let me know if you prefer that I don't mention your name or if you want me to... whatever. :}

Thank you! And have fun askin'. <3

a grand announcement + photoshoot

models featured in this shoot: lila, neeli, samantha, and moi (kenzie)

I apologize for the far too many photos featuring myself. With all honesty, I really liked these pictures of me-- scratch that-- I really like my outfit. Also, in my defence... My sister wanted to take these photos and I was her only eager model. Desperate times call for desperate measures, am I right?

Okay, now for the good stuff...

I have wonderful news to share with you all, so please... LISTEN TO ME. Are you listening to me? Hello? Are you? Can you hear me? How about now? Can you hear me now? Hello? HELLO?! PAY ATTENTION TO ME!

Oh, I'm so happy I have your attention now. :) So, I've been working on a wonderful project with a bunch of wonderful, amazing, aesthetic bloggers. It's truly amazing and feels so surreal. I really want you all to check it out and get a closer look into what we've all been working on for you.

What have you been working on? You ask.

Well, allow me to give you the clearest answer there is. CLICK HERE. Yup, that's all you gotta do. That website will fill you in on all the details and answer any questions you have regarding the projects. I'm very excited for this and I will definitely tell you all more about it soon.

Please check it out, I want you to see what I've been doing instead of blogging-- besides taking photos of course. ;)
